RE: Perko Switch Mod - Wire Size??

Edit to correct my misunderstanding.
I think AWG 10 wire is a little light. I would go with AWG 4.

RE: 2001 Dolphin Tropical Question

The Dolphin is a gas rig and more than likely does not have an inverter to run his rig on. National did not install inverters on their gas rigs, some do have them but they are usually owner added. Most gas powered units have a covnerter that only works when plugged into power. Please explain what gas vs diesel has to do with inverters. My gas National Sea Breeze LX has one that was factory installed.
That said, not all gas-powered Nationals have inverters and those that do may or may not have enough capacity to run a crock pot. If your friend does not know how to determine if he has on or not he will need to have it looked at by someone who does.

RE: painting faded decals

... my Winnibago Brave isn't gelcoated, the one thing I wish it had! Will that procedure and products still work on my non-gelcoated sides?
What type of paint should I use to repaint the areas of the old decals? The removal methods will work fine on non-coated fiberglass. As to the paint, automobile paint would probably be best for appearance and long life.

RE: painting faded decals

Thanks to the guy with the long name for reposting my instructions on decal removal.
The pain idea will work great if it is done right, which means taking off the old decals first. I recently saw a gelcoat motorhome that had been done that way by a professional painter. It looked better than new.

RE: Protect All verses wax

I use ProtectAll and like it. It is safe to use on vinyl decals whereas wax that contains petroleum products are not. It does not produce as hard a finish as wax but is easier to apply, and you can apply subsequent coats without being concerned about buildup.

RE: RV Buying Guide

I have use the RV Consumer Group ratings and found them helpful. They are based on analysis, not on actual testing the way Consumer's Union ratings are, but are a good way to compare RVs.

RE: Locking Gas Caps..Yes or No?

I have always used locking caps and will continue to do so. The reason has more to do with protection from vandalism and "malicious mischief" than fuel theft.

RE: anyway to get more pressure from shower?

If you are using one of those brass cylinder pressure regulators try taking it off. Those things restrict water flow a lot. You should see a big improvement if you use a residential pressure regulator. You can buy them at Home Depot or Lowes.

RE: 20-60% increase in MPG do-able? Water for fuel....

KTTU Channel 2 is apparently in on it too. WOW what a conspiracy.
Detroit's ABC station is showing the same thing. Amazing.OK, I give up. They couldn't say it on TV if it wasn't true, right? Buy it. Let us know how it works out.

RE: 20-60% increase in MPG do-able? Water for fuel....

Guys, it does appear that Channel 5 in West Palm Beach Florida did put the device to the test. They claim it works. ...
Go to the website for channel 5 and click on the video. You need to be a bit more aware of how these things work. There are some TV stations that prostitute themselves by selling their services to make commercials disguised to look like legitimate news stories. This is a good example. It is a scam. Call their news director and ask if they were paid to produce and air this piece.

RE: TV/internet satellite ?? Hughes Net?

If you ask Hughes about using it on the road they will tell you it can't be done. They do not support mobile applications. Many people however use tripod-mounted HughesNet dishes. If you take a look at the HughesNet ISP and Tripod User forums on the DataStorm User Group web site you will find a lot of discussion on the subject.

RE: Beaudry RV

We had a very satisfactory buying experience with them three years ago. I think it depends on who you draw as a salesman. Ask to speak with one of the senior people. They will NOT be one of the vultures that hang around the lot or Campin World waiting for a sucker.

RE: 2 6 volt or 2 12 volt in my main bank???

It is generally accepted that two Trojan T105 6 volt (or similar) batteries provide better performance than 2 12 volt "RV-Marine" batteries. Motorhome Magazine did an article on the subject a while back and reached the same conclusion.

RE: Denali NP bus- shuttle or tour dif?

There is a bus system that transports visitors inside the park. They use a fleet of ancient school-type busses. The drivers provide commentary, so I guess the trip could be called a tour but here are also some special tours. Information on all of this is on the park web site.

RE: Calif. RV Tax

The law has changed a couple of times over the past few years but is now back to the requirement to keep the RV out of California for 91 days out of six months. It must be in use during that time, not just parked, and you have to keep records to prove that. We have done it and it works. It is a cheat. The program is officially sanctioned by the State.
The California Board of Equalization had a booklet called Publication 52 that explains the whole thing. You can download it from their web site. Check to be sure I have given you the right numbers concerning the months.
It is a general sales tax, not an RV tax.

RE: Cracked Front Cap - How to Fix?

If you can get to the backside of the cap you can put a fiberglass patch on it. First use a 1/8" bit to drill a hole at each end of the crack. That will relieve the stress there and keep it from spreading. Then put two layers of fiberglass cloth and epoxy over the back of the crack with an overlap of four inches or more on both sides and at he ends.

RE: Does using an autoformer "hurt" the campground?

It can't "hurt" the campground but can definitely can hurt the other campers, which is why a lot of campgrounds have rules that prohibit them. As stated you can't get something (higher voltage) for nothing. When an autoformer boosts the voltage it also inreases the current the rig is drawing. If just one or two people do that it is probably no problem but if many do it it will further tax an already weak power campground grid. That might cause brownouts and other problems for those without the things.

RE: sales tax when buying out of state?

You should be able to get a temporary registration or a transportation permit in the state you buy in. That is valid only in that state but you are not likely to get bothered by the law if you use it to drive home and then register in your home state. When we bought our last motorhome in Arizona we drove it in Idaho, Washington and Oregon on the Arizona temporary registration before getting back to California. If you want to be completely legal you can stop at a DMV office in each state you pass through and get their temporary tag.
